Commercial aircraft spend an ever-increasing amount of time on the ground. That leads to heavier delays, more fuel burn and carbon emissions. WheelTug’s electric motors are mounted in the nose wheel, powered by the APU and operated from the cockpit by the pilot. WheelTug5.103WheelTug is certifying a proprietary electric ground propulsion system for commercial aircraft. The onboard electric taxiing system enables aircraft to taxi and pushback without using main aircraft engines or a pushback tractor. The system is mounted in the nosewheel, where it draws power from the onboard auxiliary power unit (APU); it allows pilots to execute ground maneuvers without engines or pushback tractors. The system holds great value for airlines, passengers, and other aviation stakeholders because it will save time, cut fuel burn and emissions, and reduce risk. The system offers airlines a considerable strategic advantage through improved operations, and it will be leased to them on a per operation basis, thereby aligning WheelTug’s goals with those of its customers.
